Fiverr is a popular platform for entrepreneurs and others looking for cheap freelance services, such as web design, logo design and more. This creates a great opportunity for smart freelancers who enjoy juggling multiple projects and an ever-changing number of customers.
When the platform was first launched, Fiverr was the king of the five-dollar gig. Recently, changes in their price structure have allowed freelancers greater freedom in billing and the services they offer. Both as a customer and as a freelancer on Fiverr, I believe it is one of the better freelance platforms and suitable for freelancers in most areas.
You can’t make money if you don’t post concerts
The great thing about the Fiver platform is that it gives freelancers in many fields the opportunity to provide value-added services. Fiverr is one of the best freelance websites for freelancers in creative areas such as web development, logo design, and even video and animation. If you are a freelance writer, freelance computer programmer or even a freelance digital retailer, this platform will work for you too. Setting up an account on Fiverr is quick and easy and takes a few minutes . Once you have signed up, you can immediately start developing your offer by accessing the “Sales” section of the website (as opposed to “Buying”). Keep in mind that, as a freelancer on Fiverra, you don’t set up a single work profile, but instead set up individual gigs.
I worked as a freelance poker writer on Fiverr and offered between five and ten separate gigs at any one time. Just click on “Sell” and then on “Gigs” to start posting different offers. When setting up a concert, you can offer potential clients three levels of service: basic, standard, and premium.
The basic package is the cheapest plan and you will find most of your five $ 5 gigs there. However, unlike in previous years, freelancers are not limited to a $ 5 start. If you think you can get more for your base concert, fill in what you think the market will pay for.
Standard and Premium levels are the same gigs with added features. In my gigs, my basic offer was 500-word articles, Standard was 750, and Premium was 1,000.
You can also add “Gig Extras” where customers can pay extras. I offered an additional 250 words in my gigs for an additional $ 5, and for an additional $ 10 I offered to deliver the article within 24 hours instead of 72. You can also give users the option to pay more for an additional review or anything else you think might find them tempting.
Here are some tips to set your concert apart from others in the same category:
- Use a unique title: Generic titles will result in your gig lost in a sea of identity
- Choose the right keywords: Choose keywords that are relevant to your gig and that your customers are most likely to search for
- Give examples of quality: When setting up a concert, include quality visual examples of your work and consider setting up an introductory video about yourself
- Value-added offer: Check out other providers in your categories and see if anything stands out from the rest. For example, in my case, I offered articles on poker topics that other authors did not promote
Please note that each concert must be approved before it is available, and Fiverr must certify your phone before performances can be released. This is done to prevent spam and gigs from flooding the platform.
On Fiverr, customers are looking for YOURS
Fiverr works a little differently than other free sites, like Upwork or Freelancer.com. On this platform, clients usually contact freelancers directly based on their offer, as opposed to receiving open job proposals. That is why it is crucial that your gig stands out from the others in the same category.
When I offer articles about Fiver, I don’t tell them I can “write about poker.” Instead, I list gigs like “I’ll Write a 500-Word Article on Studio 8 or Better Strategy” or “I’ll Write a 500-Word Post to Improve Your Texas Hold’em Six-Max Skills.”
When a customer wants to buy your gig, they do so directly from the site’s buying section. Customers are looking for what they need, and if they like your proposal, they will decide to buy your gig and start the buying process.
In some cases, customers can contact you directly to inquire about one of the listed concerts. It is vital for you to reply to your Fiverr messages regularly so that you do not miss customers . Just checking messages once a day is not enough. Many customers want instant answers and, unless you are offering a truly unique gig, the chance is that the client will switch to another qualified freelancer instead of waiting for an extended response period.
Another way to find customers is through the Customer Requirements section . If you have a gig available, you can search customer requests for potential customers who may match your offer. However, you should note that the more specific the concerts, the less customer requests there will be. If you find a request that you think is good, you have the option of submitting a proposal. While this personally hasn’t provided any guides for me, if you’re a freelance web designer, graphic artist, or logo maker, it’s definitely worth checking out.
Show me the money!
With Fiverra, you work on an 80/20 split, and 20% of your fees go to Fiverra . This is the same percentage that Upwork charges, although Upwork reduces this percentage after you earn over a certain amount from the same client .
Basically, if you charge $ 5 for a gig, you’ll get $ 4 and Fiverr $ 1. While this sounds pretty high, keep in mind that you pay for the convenience of using the platform and their payment system.
Paying via Fiverra is easy. When a client signs up for your gig, they have to pay in advance and the funds are then held in escrow by Fiverr. Once you have completed your concert and marked it as completed, the customer has three days to mark the order as completed or request a change. If they fail to take the following steps, Fiverr automatically ends the gig and credits the funds to your Fiverr account.
After 14 days – less if you are the best rated seller – you can withdraw funds from your Fiverr account to your PayPal account, your bank account or to a Fiverr Revenue Card issued by Payoneer.
There will be a riot on the road
There will inevitably be problems with the project or with certain customers – this is just the unfortunate reality of the gig economy. When that happens, Fiverr encourages the freelancer and the client to try to work on things on their own. The main tool at your disposal is the Resolution Center. Here you can work with your customers to try to solve problems.
You have three options for resolving orders.
- You can request a change in your order: If the customer wants more than the scope of your order allows, you can offer them paid extras to try and troubleshoot; if you accept, the order continues as usual
- You can request an extension of the delivery time: It is used often, and I have used it for a time or two, especially when personal items appear or the requested article proves too challenging to deliver within my promised time
- You can ask the customer to cancel the order: You can explain why you want to cancel the order, and if the customer agrees, the order is marked as completed and their money is refunded. Personally, I had to cancel the order only once, because the customer expected to receive a premium level of content for base pricing, and they refused to pay
It is advisable to try and resolve customer issues in your own way, as a canceled order is likely to result in negative feedback on your profile.
The client is not always right – just make sure you are not wrong
When you work as a freelancer on Fiver, you have to work hard, no matter what price you pay. Some freelancers think they can get rid of a bad job because they offer cheap services.
The worst example of this as a client on Fiver was when I requested that there be a poker site. It was clear after the first phase of the project that the freelancer did not know exactly what he was doing, and by the time the product was delivered he had met only two of the five agreed requirements.
Four revisions later, my requirements are still not met (the freelancer also decided that a floral theme is a good choice for a poker venue). The freelancer refused to cancel the order, so I was forced to take the matter to customer support. After seeing my floral poker site, the platform ruled in my favor and refunded my fees.
As a freelancer I can also confirm that customer service will join you if you can prove that you have provided quality work and fulfilled the terms of your contract. I once had a client buy me a middle klapa, which included 750 words with three revisions. The buyer constantly changed his mind about what he wanted in the article and broke through his three revisions in two days.
After requesting an additional payment for further changes, the client opened a request stating that the quality of my articles was poor, but neglected to report that he was constantly changing the parameters of the article. I uploaded articles and customer support saw our conversations and eventually stopped by with me.
